Last keiko of 2008

From left to right: Zainuddin sensei, Hj Sabtu sensei, Hj Jamil and Ahmad Isa
Venue: Saffron Restaurant

Aikidamashii had its last training session on 30th December 2008 which was graced by Zainuddin sensei. Sensei and his family were on their way back to Kota Kinabalu from a holiday in Kuching as well as upgrading in Bintulu and stopped over in Brunei for 2 nights so an opportunity to train with sensei must not be missed! The training session was informed through dojo representatives so that everyone will get a chance to train with sensei.

During the session sensei trained with us as nage as well as uke. Kokyu exercises were done followed by stretching exercises and technique training. Sensei trained hard with us and made sure that we were pushed to our limits when training as the nage. One thing though...sensei is definitely fitter than most of us!

Apart from training most time was spent with sensei sharing and exchanging thoughts on aikido and training. A most wonderful and delicious New Year's Eve barbeque dinner was hosted by Mr Ahmad Isa and his wife Mdm Faridah at their residence as we reflect on the year that has passed and the events for the year that is to come.

We hope to see more of sensei as well as the united and steady development of aikido in Brunei in 2009 and years to come.

Visit from Hombu Dojo in February 2009

Good News to all aikidokas!

Hombu Dojo has extended an offer to the Brunei Aikido Federation (BAF) to send 2 instructors to Brunei for a seminar as well as upgrading session (if requested) in February 2009. Hombu Dojo conducts an annual roadshow whereby it sends its instructors to certain countries to conduct seminars and upgrading part of its effort to spread and develop aikido worldwide. It is very fortunate indeed that Hombu Dojo is including Brunei in its list of countries. Apart from Brunei, the designated instructors will also be visiting Jakarta, Indonesia as well as Manila and Cebu, the Philippines.

For those of us in Aikidamashii who attended the 10th IAF Congress and Seminar at Tanabe, Japan in October 2008, it was a truly memorable and valuable experience being able to attend the keiko of various shihans and direct deshis of O' Sensei (Kaiso) as well as to learn the culture and training etiquette and standards in Japan. For those of us who do not yet have the opportunity to train in Japan, this is very good news indeed as now all aikidokas in Brunei will have the chance to train under and learn from 2 senseis from Hombu Dojo in February 2009 and hopefully every year onwards.

A committee headed by Mr Ahmad Isa has been set up by BAF to organize the Hombu Dojo visit. Details will be announced later once all arrangements have been finalized so please visit our website regularly for updates.

Any volunteering assistance is most welcome! To volunteer assistance please call Hj Sabtu Hj Awg Besar at +6738841155 or Sarah at +6738713542.

A BAF meeting was held at Aikidamashii dojo on 29th December 2008
